Water Flower – US Botanic Garden Revisited
I went to the US Botanic Garden recently and had to take the opportunity to revisit my favorite photographic subject.

The poem inscribed at the entrance to the Dupont Metro reads:
Thus in silence in dreams’ projections,
Returning, resuming, I thread my way through the hospitals;
The hurt and wounded I pacify with soothing hand,
I sit by the restless all dark night – some are so young;
Some suffer so much – I recall the experience sweet and sad…
– The Wound Dresser from Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman, 1876
This sculpture is terrifying and amazing up close, but a picture doesn’t fully do it justice. It will be on display at the Hirshhorn until November 2009.
Today marks the first anniversary of my little blog and I would just like to say it’s been a pleasure to work on it. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and the more than 300 original photos I’ve put up thus far. Please feel free to send me an email or browse the growing archives.
