Privacy Policy

Location

This Here shows information about a place you choose — a neighborhood, city, or address. You can pick that place two ways:

• Search or drop a pin on the map. This is always available and never requires any location permission at all.
• Tap “Use current location.” Only this specific action prompts iOS to ask permission to use your device’s location while the app is open. This Here never requests “Always” location access, and never accesses your location when the app isn’t in use.

If you decline this permission, or turn it off later, the app continues to work fully — you’ll simply search for or drop a pin on a location yourself instead of it being found automatically.

Once a location is chosen, whether from GPS or picked manually, its coordinates (or information derived from them, like a county or census tract) are sent to the public data sources below, so the app can retrieve information about that place.

Public Data Sources

This Here doesn’t run its own database of local information. Instead, it looks up your chosen location in various U.S. government and other public data sources, including:

• U.S. Census Bureau — population, housing, income, and related demographic data
• National Weather Service and Open-Meteo — current weather and historical climate records
• EPA AirNow, EPA Air Quality System, and EPA water quality databases — air and water quality
• OpenAQ, an independent nonprofit air-quality data provider — additional air quality data
• U.S. Energy Information Administration — electricity generation data
• National Park Service — nearby parks
• eBird, run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology — recent bird sightings
• Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons — landmark information
• Library of Congress, Smithsonian Institution, and Internet Archive — historic photographs
• USASpending.gov — federal spending data
• Congress.gov — elected representatives
• CDC PLACES, CDC BRFSS, and the CDC Environmental Justice Index — community health statistics
• U.S. Geological Survey — watershed information
• Apple Maps — walking directions, when you tap a “Directions” link

These requests work the way visiting any of these sources’ own websites would: your location is sent so the source can return relevant public information for that place. This Here does not control what a given source does with a request once it reaches them, and each source’s own privacy practices apply to that specific transmission.

Diagnostics

This Here uses Apple’s built-in MetricKit framework to help catch crashes and performance problems. This data, things like crash logs and performance metrics, is collected by iOS itself, stays on your device, and is not automatically sent anywhere. It reaches us only if you personally choose to send us a report.

What’s Stored on Your Device

If you set a “Home” location for comparison, or the app caches information it has already looked up, that data is stored only on your own device, using standard iOS local storage. It is never uploaded to a server, and it is deleted if you delete the app.

What This Here Does Not Do

• No user accounts, sign-in, or personal profile of any kind
• No advertising, and no advertising networks or SDKs
• No sale or sharing of your data with data brokers
• No tracking of your activity across other apps or websites
• No third-party analytics services

Children’s Privacy

This Here is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, regardless of age.

Your Choices

• Location permission can be granted, denied, or revoked at any time in iOS Settings, without affecting the rest of the app’s functionality.
• Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device, since nothing about you is stored anywhere else.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
